Kratom for Everyday Living
A quick Google search will reveal hundreds of testimonials showing how kratom is helping people live normal lives. An astonishing number say that kratom has helped them kick an addiction to both prescribed or illicit opioids, alcohol and other substances. Others who struggle with physical pain or emotional pain, such as anxiety and depression, have expressed how kratom has helped them find relief.
In a blog on Kratom United, a nonprofit kratom organization, people from all walks of life share their experiences with kratom. The following testimonials can be found on their site.
Testimony: Freedom From Tramadol
Maryann Colucci, a 60 year old Biomedical Technician at a Biopharmaceutical Company had become dependent on the painkiller Tramadol.
“After 3 years of tramadol use I found that I was unable to stop using it, and a large part of the problem was that there is a little known fact about this medication, that is that there is an SSRI, an antidepressant, in this pill, it essentially leaves your brain dependent on the pill,” said Maryann.
“Without the tramadol I would feel depression to the point of having thoughts of no longer wanting to live! Trying to stop the pill was impossible, I would have physical and emotional withdrawal symptoms that were unbearable!”
Maryann finally became desperate enough to make an appointment with a rehab and detox center. She wanted to detox fully from tramadol. “Before my scheduled check in date I called the center to ask some questions and I was told that they were going to put me on a high dose of suboxone to detox from the tramadol!” she said.
Suboxone is typically given to people addicted to powerful narcotics like heroin and other opiates. Maryann declined that treatment and began to research home detox methods which led to her discovery of kratom.
“It sounded too good to be true but I had nothing to lose but my life! I ordered some from a legitimate vendor, my questions about dosage for my purpose of use were answered and I was guided on what type of kratom plant was best for me! My order arrived in 5 days.. I took my last dose of tramadol that evening and the next morning took my first dose of kratom! I was waiting for the horrible withdrawals that ALWAYS came.. the intense restless leg syndrome, the severe depression and lack of energy (the hardest part of the detox when you have a job) and I waited for the joint pain to start back up! Instead, I felt rather energized, ZERO restless leg syndrome, I felt upbeat and happy (as though I was still using the tramadol) and the most amazing part of all.. ZERO JOINT PAIN!”
“It’s only been a month and I am continuing the suggested dosage and am still experiencing ZERO withdrawals and ZERO pain, even though I have very large Baker Cysts from joint damage! I have no doubt this miracle plant saved my life, my job, and will allow me to continue working until my planned retirement year!”
“I also have no doubt that the suboxone they wanted to put me on would have caused yet another, even worse, addiction! … I am so thankful that I was educated about the use of Kratom!” Read Maryann’s whole story here.
Testimonial: Living- Not Just Existing
Corey Ciculya, a 46 yr old survivor with clinical PTSD, says “With the proper usage of this medicinal botanical- I broke free from decades of “Doctor-prescribed”- morphine/oxycodone/clonazepam/tamazapam/Belsomra and Ritalin ADDICTION…Today..at 46..Never in my life have I ever been this happy; healthy or holy.. I now KNOW what it means TO LIVE.. not exist!” Read her whole testimonial here.
Testimonial: Relief for a Chronic Pain Patient
Pamela Carneal, a 61-yr-old wife, grandmother and home owner, was a chronic pain patient who always followed the doctor’s order to a T. She was diagnosed with bilateral Neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (NTOS), a painful and disabling repetitive strain injury that causes chronic muscle spasms in the neck and shoulders.
“Pain management helped to some degree, but the restrictions I faced due to my disability were daunting and my morale declined while the pain medications I was prescribed sapped what little life I had left in me. Somehow, I adapted and just as I grew more comfortable with my new normal, efforts to control the opioid crisis escalated and for various reasons completely beyond my control, it started becoming harder to get my medications filled in a timely manner.”
“Although I’m not psychologically addicted, my body was physically dependent on there being a certain level of medication in my system at all times. Delays in getting a prescription filled caused debilitating withdrawal symptoms to set in within hours of a missed dose. And those delays were becoming the norm, not the exception.”
“It was during one of these delays of getting my prescriptions filled that I was introduced to kratom. Kratom significantly reduced the withdrawal symptoms I experienced. In fact, it worked so well that I eventually decided to discontinue the prescription extended release morphine I’d come to rely on for more than a decade.”
According to Pamela, kratom has also allowed her to cut back on the amount of muscle relaxers and antispasmodic medications she uses. “Kratom allows me to function on a whole new level and without the troublesome side effects or tolerance issues of opioids. It has the added benefit of boosting my energy and mood, which is really important for those of us facing chronic illness. As part of my wellness routine, which includes careful attention to a high-quality anti inflammatory diet and vitamin and herbal supplements, kratom helps support an overall sense of calm and well being like no prescription pain medication has ever done for me.” Read Maryann’s whole story here.
Centuries of Safe Use
Although kratom may seem like a new trend, the plant has been used in Southeast Asia for centuries, including as a household remedy for various ailments and as a recreational drink (primarily among men). In some Thai villages, it was used as part of religious ceremonies. Farmers, fishermen and other manual laborers in Southeast Asia would also chew the fresh or dried leaves to combat fatigue and improve work productivity. The leaves could also be smoked or brewed or steeped into tea. It is still popular in Asian village communities during social gatherings.
